It’s funny how much things can change in just one year! My family has always been very close. My parents are amazing examples of commitment and love and my sister and I have been blessed to find husbands that love us like our daddy loves our mom. So this time last year, it was just the six of us. Now, there are eight! I had a little girl (Addyson) in February and my sister Alyse had a little boy (Jude) in September!

Where once, we could all ride together to go somewhere now we require 3 SUV’s, 2 strollers, 2 diaper bags, 10 pacifiers, plenty of bottles, 2 car seats, bibs, burp cloths, and of course- cameras! Our lives have changed so much but it’s hard to imagine life before the babies. I can’t imagine what it will be like when more little ones come along!

Becoming a mom has changed me in ways I could have never predicted! Where once I was very put together at all times, now I hardly brush my teeth before 5:00! Where once I would’ve gagged at the thought of a booger, now I gladly pull one out of her tiny nose! More importantly, where once I thought my heart was full with just Jesus and my sweet husband, I feel like it is going to explode with the love I have found in my precious little girl.

My whole perspective has changed on just about everything. I want to protect her from everything. I think differently about where I’m going, what I’m watching, and what I want for the future. It is the most unbelievable experience to know that a little life is fully dependant on me. What a responsibility God has entrusted us with!

Last week, Kory and I were in a small group discussion at church and the teaching was something I had never heard before and it blew my mind. It was that the family is actually complete with just a husband and a wife. The children are simply additions to an already complete family. WOAH! If that’s true, then why do I feel like my baby has completed me?

The truth is, I am wrong to think this way and although it is un-natural for a mother, God wants us to find completion in the union of a Godly marriage. Our husband must remain first in our hearts but it’s so hard! The Lord has gently corrected me on the principal this year so that I will clearly see that what my little girl really needs most is for me to put her daddy first.

For all you mama’s out there today I encourage you to assess who is first in your heart after the Lord- your kids or your man?

Being in the same room with Ashley is a treat all by itself. But when she gets onstage and speaks—well, that girl definitely has a gift! Her energy and enthusiasm for her ministry of empowering women is  infectious and so incredibly needed.  I just wish someone like her had been around when I was young—I wouldn’t have grown up to write a book called Left at the Altar!

~Kimberley Kennedy, author of the book Left at the Altar: My Story of Hope and Healing for Every Woman Who Has Felt the Heartbreak of Rejection.

Pearls will always hold a special place in my heart after hearing Ashley speak about the special, powerful uniqueness of each beautiful pearl. The quiet strength and beauty that women carry are truly a gift from God.

    ~Deb Austin

Ashley is so open and honest . Her message to our women spoke not only to my heart, but to many others too. I realized that as women we often get so caught up in what people think of us and how we should act that we are not always real. Ashley’s challenge to be the real person God created was just want I needed to hear.  I’m so thankful that Ashley was willing to share of herself for God’s purpose.

    ~Susan Heaslip

This past Spring I had the opportunity to attend a Power of Pearls session with my daughter-in-law.  What a beautiful time it was to meet with women from all walks of life and to hear the message of our uniqueness, beauty and worth in Christ.  When I left that day, my heart was so encouraged.    Ashley’s message was one filled with passion, humor and directly from the heart of God for women today.

    ~Evelyn Sherwood
